Mum was motivated by a very strong sense of duty and the need to do what was right. This led her to help in the war effort, to adopt Andrew and Robert, to take in her elderly relatives and to support Dad throughout his ministry and when he had Alzheimer’s disease. She wanted to improve the lives of others and quite apart from her involvement in numerous church committees she instigated the building of a community centre in Somerset and worked for the Parish Council there, worked for a short time for the Citizen’s Advice bureau in Rugby and right to the end she considered it essential and appropriate to give the vote of thanks whenever there was a public event at Foxholes care home. She respected those politicians and others who supported her views and followed the news avidly every day. She was unshakeable in her beliefs and so was a strong, resolute , single-minded, unsentimental and doughty opponent with no deference to those in power or authority. She was resilient, indefatigable, tenacious and determined to get things done her way and she was very often proved to be right. However, she did respect those who did stand up to her and she enjoyed the fight! She was a person who could not be ignored.
